What makes me angry is that the older ACAs - especially the Cyclones -are being replaced.

Its not all bad news. I did a Google search and it appears ANS is an American Signal distributor.

http://www.ans-service.com/ (their website doesn't say so, but there it is)
Ask Geo: 3-minute sirens mean take cover - Rockford, IL - Rockford ...
ANS Services, a division of American Signal Corp., installed a tornado siren last month in northwest Winnebago County. advertisement. Loading content. ...
That's where I found it. And if you Google "ANS Services American Signal," you'll get a whole bunch of hits.

I wonder what they will be doing with all of those good sirens?

Probably scrapping/shredding them.

It seems like loads of places are getting new sirens. I wonder why, especially if the old system ran fine.

The old system may have run fine, but in the event of a calamity at the power plant, it is very possible that AC power would go out...meaning most of those sirens would not be able to be activated. There are some 2001s in the system right now with battery backup, so I wonder if those will be removed and replaced also.

At least they're getting replaced with ASC sirens. For a minute, there, I was afraid they were going to go with ATIs! I don't know why, but I feel the biggest void when a Penetrator, Cyclone or other large ACA siren is replaced.
