Here on Long Island, NY, sirens are for FD's only. Most still use some form of an audible system, but the testing times/days vary for each department. Most due a noon time round.

It might be yearly out here in the west, I don't exactly know. We don't get tornadoes or really severe storms out here.

Also, our sirens are sounded once a year at 10:07 A.M. for the Kentucky tornado drill.

Hey Spotter/Chaser, do you live near Louisville?

Searcy, Arkansas:
Every Wednesday at 12:00 noon, weather permitting. During the very hot days in the summer, they are silent tested and at random times throughout the year they can be silent tested as well. All of White County and Searcy have Whelen Vortex R-4's. The White County sirens have the fin on the back; the Searcy sirens don't. Beebe and White county vary their testing schedules but I believe they are on Wednesdays but sometimes don't sound theirs when Searcy does. On a very good day, I can hear 3 of the Searcy sirens and 2 of the White County sirens. Notice the key words "very good".
The Whelen vortexes in Searcy are sounded in alert first, hi-low second. The greater White County area uses the wail signal (see the Judsonia AR youtube video).

Sirens in Sedgwick County (Wichita) are tested every Monday at noon. Except some sirens owned by some smaller communities who sound their siren(s) for a daily sounding.
