I found a Federal Signal Model 3T!

Fri Apr 13, 2018 8:16 pm

I paid a visit to the Rockville, VA Fire D.E.P.T and found a Federal Signal model 3 which was buried in the trees so I took a look at the control box and I couldn't believe my eyes, the model number was (3T) I couldn't wait to tell all of you here's the link to the street view: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.7245155 ... 312!8i6656

Wow! Great find. Not terribly far from me either. I hate to say it but I'm not sure it's active because of the way it's in the trees. I'm not sure though.

Yeah, unfortunately I’m not so sure either, I’ll have to ask them if it is.

The control box tags on Federal sirens don’t have the siren model number stamped on them. This siren would be equipped with an RC5WA motor starter or an ARCH Siratrol unit for remote control. The only way to tell this siren’s model number is to look at the tag on the siren housing itself, which isn’t always accurate. I’m pretty sure they never made the 3T either, they ceased production of the Model 3 in the late 1950’s before everyone started moving towards dual tone equipment. This is probably a 5T, the smaller version of the 7T, if it’s dual tone.

I also forgot to mention that the siren was dual toned when I looked at the chopper, and I know for sure that the siren is a model 3 because of the sirens air intake is closer to the choppers bottom horn.
