Severe lack of siren coverage in the Washington DC area.

Sun Mar 25, 2018 9:59 pm

It was not all that long ago when Washington DC had a massive system of ACA Alertors. You would think many would remain since the 70s but that is not the case.
Very few remain as most were intentionally taken down for no defined reason. The very few sirens that are still around are completely decommissioned or broken beyond repair. I only know of one ACA allertor active as a fire siren in the rural aria west of washimgton dulles international airport.

I mentioned this a few times in another topic about siren dead zones.

Isn't Washington DC the first target priority for north korea and terror attacks anyways?

Well if it was the first target priority what good would sirens be anyways? I mean that's my thought, in any case important government officials would be evacuated to a secure location before anything happened in DC.

I can understand using sirens for natural threats like weather, but in the case you're talking about a lot of people would probably not survive anyways...that's why the whole idea of Civil Defense went out the window in the first place. Not that I'd think about such scenarios anyways because I usually don't think about that sort of thing...because in reality the chances of it happening are rare.

Do you think anyone.can expect north korea to develope a large H-bomb light and small enough to be launched on a missile?

North korea is infact dumb enough to nuke us.
And in that manner their is still a chance of evacuation to VERY DEEP bomb shelters around the DC aria. It is NOT likley that a NK missile would even be accurate enough to hit DC straight on. It is more likley ro hit off target Or a neighboring city like Baltimore. Mabye as far as richmond. Wether or not; people want warning for such an event.

I recently went to Washington, DC and found several roof mounted DSA 2 sirens. Ill try to get a map for you. also the pentagon has 2 Whelen WPS 2801 sirens. But still there are a lot of dead spots, still it is unknown just exactly how many DSA's are located in DC.

Used to live in D.C. back in 2006. I don't know about DC itself, but on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling AFB, they have omnidirectional sirens if I remember correctly. I think they were Whelen 2700 or 2800s?

As stated before, they do have a couple DSA units, or maybe even a system. I recall seeing a picture on FedSig's FaceBook account of a DSA with the Capital in the background.
