CLM Siren Bites the Dust

Sun Dec 10, 2017 10:23 pm

Have some unfortunate news to tell everyone. A CLM siren I had been trying to save for months has been wreaked and about to hit the scrap heap. Long story short it was the CLM siren at Hwy 400 and Sheppard In Toronto, ON. It was on top of a Home Depot distribution centre and I had noticed it was going to be demolished so I starting calling around. Found the right guy who was in charge of the demo company. Talked to him for months getting updates and he said I could take it, but would probably have to pay a scrap type price for it which I agreed to. I noticed it was almost about to demoed so I called again but he said it had been crushed and he couldn't control his men. I did state the fact It was a historical artifact but clearly he didn't care. Words can't describe how pissed I am he would just let it be destroyed like that after he agreed to let me take it. I went back to the demo site to try to see it for myself and I was lucky enough to find it and see it on its side after falling two stories. I've asked the owner again if I could have it to take some parts off and gut it but after I bad mouthed him he probably won't get back to me.

Here it is:

Some Pictures of it. It was the only roof mounted example I knew about and was perfect for a trailer mount.

Such a shame, looked like it was in amazing condition for its age.

They all are inactive and have been for decades, to my knowledge.

Well, as long as the rotors aren't cracked or something it maybe could be salvaged. If it's just banged up sheet metal that shouldn't be too difficult of a fix.
I have an unhealthy obsession with mini sirens.

That's a shame, a while back I was driving behind a flatdeck with two badly dented up CLM sirens on it. I don't know where they ended up, but I always keep an eye out when I'm at a scrapyard or a recycler. Unfortunately, they probably just got scrapped for copper and other metals.
