SONGS former mystery sirens and STL-10s

Sun Nov 05, 2017 3:34 am

On Bing maps the former SONGS designed mystery sirens that everyone calls Toshibas and STL-10s are still visible using the birds eye view tool ,I could only find a few of the old sirens including STL-10s since most of the sites have the replacement Whelen 2800s. Which the Whelens started being put up in around early 2006 in place of the mystery octagon shaped sirens and STL-10s. Since I could only find about 5 of the old sirens ,the image must be from Feb 2006 since in Mar 2006 all the Whelens have been finally installed. I also found the guy who designed these sirens. I will let you guys know when he calls me back since I'm currently waiting to ask him about how these old sirens worked ,and if he has a tape or audio recording of these sirens. After the Whelens were installed the STL-10s went to Curry County Oregon and are used for Tsunamis ,The mystery sirens weren't announced on if they were going anywhere ,but my guess is there in storage down by the plant or something.

Anyway here is screen shots of all the old sirens I could find.

I've got to hand it to you dude, you've been dragging up some cool stuff about the old SONGS system! I applaud you for that.

I find it interesting that AT&T San Clemente (the microwave site in your first picture) had a siren at it. It's quite unusual to see sirens at microwave sites.

Thank you! I'm still waiting to here back from the designer of the Mystery octagon sirens ,I will post threads about what he told me on how they worked and if he has any audio or a VHS tape of them going off. And I'll be taking a tour of SONGS in a few weeks ,so I'll ask them if they know what happened to those cool mystery sirens.

I will tell you there are or were 2 1003s on plant property. I do not know if they are still up though.

Yes ,because I don't have any software to screenshot images off my computer. These screen shots I took I believe back in 2014 and since then forgot about them ,then a few months ago I stumbled across them. As of now the old sirens are no longer visible since Bing Maps updated there Birds eye satellite images back in mid 2015 But they are still visible (Hardly) on Google earth using the historical satellite imagery tool from dates 2003 to early 2006. But I believe the old birds eye images were from February 2006.

That’s interesting. I’d wondered where those STL-10’s in Curry County came from.

What PC do you have? Depending on what it is I can tell you how to take screenshots, etc.
