The Federal Thunderbolt 1000's that were installed in the mid-1950's throughout St. Louis County, Missouri (where I grew up) all had their blower boxes mounted vertically several feet up on the telephone poles that the sirens were mounted to. I've never seen any other T-Bolts with their blower boxes mounted this way. These T-Bolts were provided by St. Louis County Civil Defense.

There were several municipalities in St. Louis County that had T-Bolts installed in the 1950's and '60's but their blower boxes were mounted horizontally on a concrete slab on the ground next to the telephone poles that the sirens were mounted on. This goes for the T-Bolts that were scattered throughout neighboring St. Charles County as well.

Sorry, but I have no pictures to provide. I wish that I did, just for the memories.

Wouldn't vertically mounting the blower mess it up somehow?

It wouldn't make sense if it did.

It’s totally possible to do, and shouldn’t really hurt anything. I imagine it would be a pain in the arse to change the oil in the blower though.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well I mean you figure that the actual blowers were mounted sideways in the B and C series... shouldn't hurt to you know... turn the whole thing sideways...

I thought the late 80's thunderbolts had vertically mounted blowers.
