Sheldon Park EOWS 612 Returns!

Mon Jul 24, 2017 8:22 pm

The EOWS 612 from Sheldon Park in Livonia Michigan has come back. I talked with West Shore Services a bit about acquiring it, and 1 week ago I bought it and brought it home to Livonia! While I was at WSS they told me, " if you hadn't bought it, it would've bit the dust with the rest soon". So sadly other 612's and 812's are going to be scrapped, but at least this one survives. It's still undergoing restoration at the moment, and I've already been featured on the city's Instagram page

That's pretty cool that you managed to do this. How many drivers were in it? I recall seeing a pic of it a while back where it was missing 2 or so.

It has 12 speaker drivers total- 2 per speakers. WSS gave me spares while I was picking it up

So if all the 612's and 812's are going to be scrapped, what will happen to the other sirens? Will they be scrapped also?

I remember watching the video of this siren on YouTube back when I first got into sirens. It was, and still is, the best video of a Siratone EOWS siren running Alternate Wail on YouTube. Glad it has a good home now!

You know, back when I was new in the community when I was around 8 or 9. I always thought that the thing was broken. Now I look back at it and think I was so silly to assume such a thing.

It was probably the first video I've seen of an EOWS* 612

Eventually if they're taking up space. All the sirens in the yard are used for spare parts, scrapping is more of a last resort. But as I said, scrapping of 612s are possible in the future
