Altec Lansing- Dade County, Florida

Sat Mar 04, 2017 1:38 am

So I just happened upon this video tonight:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwYmouFZpuM

Not sure if this has been posted before or not, but I have yet to see it on the board here. Thanks to PeachtreeSirens, we have confirmed that this system was in Dade County Florida. I'd be interested to see if anyone else knows anything about this system. According to the video, this siren was mounted atop the Dade County Civil Defense office, which I am unable to find despite the cross streets being mentioned.

This is the building that formerly housed the Civil Defense Control Center seen in the film, but it doesn't match where the siren was mounted.
Don't wait. Take a siren photo today.

I found a list of Dade County siren locations but sadly none of witch are
Altec Lansing ''Giant Voice'' sirens. The tower the one in the video is standing on could have been removed with the siren.

I would recognize that type of tower anywhere, that is a fire department training tower... if you find the Dade County Fire Academy I am sure you will see that tower or one just like it

I' don't know anything about the Altec siren system, but I do know what Dade County utilized for the majority of their siren system. Their old CD siren system consisted of several dozen Chrysler Sirens, several dozen Thunderbolt 2000's, Federal 2T22's, and several WW2 era Model 5's and 3's. Nothing remains of the system now.
