Siren Craziness In Fort Worth!

Sat Nov 15, 2014 4:01 am

This past week Jeb (Holler) came out to here to help me out with some repairs to the Whelen system. Before we took the bucket truck back we decided to have a little fun and make an attempt to remove two of the old remaining sirens here in Fort Worth.

The first siren is one of the Vortex units that had the rotator completely destroyed from 100 mph winds. I have to rebuild the rotator and replace the wiring harness and then siren goes back up to service.

Jeb and I then removed the last Allertor that was standing in Fort Worth off 28th Street. It lost the chain on the rotator but otherwise the siren is in great shape.

The last siren we took down happened to be a Old Thunderbolt that I've been working for months to get down. It is a Jail Bar Thunderbolt!

Yes kids... Of course he has to get the pic of himself riding the allertor... And I think our good man tyler should be here any minute saying his famous line regarding the "Jailbar thunderboat!!!!!!" (Lol cmon we all love it!!!!!) I have to ask though... Do all jailbars have the multibars that go back into the horn like that?
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

It's great to see awesome sirens like those get into good hands! That paint on that JailBar held up very well; what year was it made? I'm guessing 1955.

That has to be one of the best condition Gridfaced thunderbolts I have ever seen.

Slightly OT, but Jeb looks like he's wearing a WWII Paratrooper jumpsuit a little bit.

As a fellow Fort Worthian, and someone who's been eyeing one of the last remaining Thunderbolts since they canned the old system fifteen years ago, I was wondering how you managed to get your hands on these guys? And, is there anyway some joe shmoe like me could fulfill one of their life's aspirations and get one? Like, who should I talk to/how could I do it?
My girlfriend does not understand this at all. Actually I really don't either.

If you don't mind me asking, where was the old thunderbolt located?
