Whelen 2800s have the sceens between the cells closer to the edges of the cells than the 2900s.

Most importantly, the 2900s introduced the EZ-Pull driver. This allowed for a driver to be pulled from the housing from the side of the cell for quick replacement. On the 2700s and 2800s, the whole housing had to be dismantled and lifted to replace the driver, which was centered in the cell. Can you only imagine the migraine that is having to replace driver 1 in a 2810.

Trivia: the Federal Modulator was designed specifically to combat Whelen's design flaw. It's plain as day in the Mod's patent.

The siren head was redesigned to be a lot louder than the 2800 series. The 2910s on the base down here are way louder than the 2810s here in Columbus. 129Db vs. 126Db @ 100'

Can we stop making things up please? The physical housing design is nearly identical to its predecessors. There two explanations for the increased output. Number one is different testing standards. Basically, if you can get it to test higher, you report it higher (marketing mumbo jumbo). Number two is at the time of the debut of the 560 Hz controller, it was said that this was a more efficient tone for the driver allowing for increased performance.

The 560Hz 2810s down here must have some busted drivers. They are not quite as loud as newer 2910s on the base. I know they sounded louder on that newer controller, but the output from those on Ft. Benning have made my head pound and my ears hurt before

Which frequency controllers are they currently putting in their sirens? This may of been talked about earlier, but I hear so many Whelens with so many different pitches. Do they make anymore dual toned controllers like Federal does?

Yes. The pitch has evolved with the controllers. The early controllers sounded around 710 hz, the later analog controllers were reduced to about 460 hz, then the 465 hz digital controller came along (no later than 1996), the 440 hz ESC-2020 came along around 2001, and the 560 hz ESC-2020* came along in 2007.

No. Whelen controllers also don't seem terribly customizable, unlike the Federal controllers. Would they do something at the factory for you if you custom requested it? Who knows. But its not like a UV where the tones are all highly customizable.
