ASC 2001?!

Sun Nov 03, 2013 2:28 pm

I was driving to pick up breakfast form the local sammich shop this morning, and i took a closer look at this 2001. as i pulled in the lot, i noticed the ASC logo on the panels! Hamilton county EMA replaced the federal panels with newer ASC panels meant for a t128! they are installed on a 2001!!!!

Why the heck would they do this? are the ASC panels cheaper than federal?

P.S... this pole is leaning to the left about 10-12 degrees !

To standardize the equipment, in particular, the activation equipment/radios/SCADA systems. The respective manufacturers' equipment isn't necessarily cross-compatible.

Well, of course! Remember all of the issues that were created when Franklin County was switching to Whelen from the T-Bolt system? They retrofitted all the Thunderbolts with Whelen DTMF panels, and half the Thunderbolts since broke, malfunctioned, or plain wouldn't work.

AllAmericanFE has a video of a malfunctioning retrofitted 'bolt on his channel on YouTube! :wtf:

This is a part of Hamilton County's system upgrade. Really, this shouldn't have happened to have ASC controls on 2001s. I thought I heard a while back that they decided to cancel this part of the upgrade, but maybe not...
Resident of a county with big a mixture of sirens, but in the process of being replaced. :(

Last year LaPorte county retrofitted all of their sirens (everything from old Model 5s to 2001-130s) with ASC radios in order to comply with narrow banding requirements. Instead of replacing the entire array of boxes they just did this:

They've been pretty reliable so far, despite one 2001 that likes to go off randomly in the middle of the night. I think it's malfunctioned 4 times.

I saw the opposite of this last year. A T-128 with brand new Federal boxes in Lemont IL. But this year they ended up replacing it with a 2001-130

I think the old controller may have gone to crap, so they replaced it with ASC controls since the company supplies them.

No, it was part of the Hamilton county upgrade. No use in using an FC if the rest of your sirens have compulert controllers.

No that's not what he meant. He was talking about the fact that trying to get a different brands 2 way system to jive is a major PITA.

Has nothing to do with tbolts with whelen panels. Sirens are dumb, all they need is something to close a set of contacts.
