Ironically, what may be my all-time favorite siren ambiance would probably be the one I grew up with, on the 400 block (south side of the street) of West Territorial Road in Battle Creek, MI. Nearest siren would be the (probably) SD-10 about half a mile away at the Eldred Street water tower (since replaced by a rotating ATI when they replaced the old tower with a second ground-mounted tank), plus an EOWS-612 about 1.5 miles southeast, another 612 just over two miles southwest, 4/5-port 1000Ts at about 3 miles northwest (this one since replaced by two Mods about a quarter-mile apart), 4 miles north-northwest, and 2 miles northeast, plus other SD-10s and 1000Ts further away and almost certainly completely out of range.
Why? Because it makes me think of lazy spring and summer Saturday afternoons reading in my bedroom with the windows open on test day, and how I thought my youth would never end. (Yes, I'm actually nostalgic for Cold War paranoia...)
