Damaged Tornado Sirens in Moore: Photos

Fri May 31, 2013 4:30 am

According to The Weather Channel, 9 of Moore's 36 sirens were damaged or destroyed by the May 20th tornado. Here are some photos of the damage:

Apparently the coverage is dense enough in Moore that the whole city is still covered by at least one siren.

Oh crap, bad feeling about one of those controller pictures. The lower one looks like an older controller to a 2T22 or Thunderbolt. :(

I think I saw someone mention in another thread that a 2T22 or 2 were in the path, so you could be right.

I have a feeling that Moore will replace the entire siren system. Bet that the new system will be 508's, -130's, Eclipses?

Modulators probably. And they will keep what they have that is able to be saved. Their EMA director is pretty serious about their siren system. Why they would pick crappy Modulators beats me though. Eclipses would be cool if they were as dense as the Mods because I'm thinking it would be about the same, if not more. The thing about the Mods is all of the ones in Moore have different tones. Major third, minor third, single tone, and a high single tone. It makes a freaky sound when combined with the legacy system.

Unfortunately your bad feeling is right, it's what's left of the 2T22 on Santa Fe near SW 16th. I had a feeling from the time I saw that tornado's track that it most likely took out at least one of those 2T22s that were in it. I wonder how the other one in the path (at Highland East Jr High) fared?

Ian is correct. According to this satellite map that was posted on another thread the 2T22 on the west side is gone.

According to the above map, the 2T22 at Highland East Jr High that Ian mentioned is still standing, though probably damaged.

Man this really sucks! A tornado coming through and destroying a town and its sirens!

By the way, I never thought of Modulators being so tough:
