The city of Detroit, had a Federal Signal 2000 Thunderbolt. It was gasoline powered, and located atop the Penobscot Building in the downtown area. It was a dual-tone unit, as it was purchased with DCPA matching funds in the 1950s.
Many communities that had 2000 series Thunderbolts, converted them over to running on propane gas in the 1960s and 1970s. This was done in several West Coast communities. Los Angeles comes to mind as one place that did the conversion to propane.
