Such thing as a Thunderbolt 2000?

Not sure if there is such a thing about the Thunderbolt 2000? If I am correct, I saw something like this in some Los Angeles Siren thread.

not that I know of. there was a "System 7000" which was a Thunderbolt 1000T along with a generator set.

Wikipedia used to list a Thunderbolt 2000, that was apparently 100% gas powered

The Thunderbolt 2000 series is in fact, a real siren. Other than the one that Charles found in CA, I am unaware of any other units here in the US, but I'm sure they exist somewhere.

And to my disappointment, the one in San Dimas (the one you're referring to), is gone as of Jan 2010, and presumed scrapped :cry: There is another T-Bolt head sticking up over a firehouse in a nearby area to the San Dimas one, but I can't see the blower box to verify whether it's a gas or electric one.

I might be remembering wrong, but didn't someone call that one a 3000?

Adam Pollak has several pictures of a Thunderbolt 2000 that used to be in Florida. From what we could tell, the blower was powered by a propane engine. Unlike a 7000 which is fully self contained and can function when the power is off, the 2000 still needs outside power to function...the only difference being it doesn't need a large power source and can be used at more remote locations. Never heard of a 3000.

I have heard of the 2000x series, as they did not produce very many of those units.

The city of Detroit, had a Federal Signal 2000 Thunderbolt. It was gasoline powered, and located atop the Penobscot Building in the downtown area. It was a dual-tone unit, as it was purchased with DCPA matching funds in the 1950s.

Many communities that had 2000 series Thunderbolts, converted them over to running on propane gas in the 1960s and 1970s. This was done in several West Coast communities. Los Angeles comes to mind as one place that did the conversion to propane.

In the 2000 series, were the models 2000, 2000T, and 2003 like in the electric powered ones?
