Werden Siren P-127 Portent | Alert | New Richmond, OH

Wed Jul 04, 2018 7:43 pm

Me and Gary decided to revisit this siren on the one year anniversary of our last attempt with the whole gang. In between now and then, someone repaired it, and it also seems to have gotten a new coat of paint on the projector. Gladly, Clermont decided to test despite it being the 4th of July, albeit they were a few minutes late. Nonetheless, tones came through and it wound up just as it should, right after the FSK. From above, this thing wasn't super loud or punchy, but as we traversed down the hill towards it, it got exponentially louder. Probably on par or louder than our first Kettering RM-127. Also note that you can hear the prototype EOWS-1212 wind up before this siren and wind down after. Enjoy!

I looked at the prototype 1212 on Streetview, it appears to be an EOWS-115.. is there something I am missing that makes it a prototype 1212 as compared to a EOWS-115? Wish that triple shroud Federal would sound and we could hear it LOL

It was an early EOWS 115, IIRC. It was originally called the 1212 and production was rushed for a contract, IIRC, and shortly after they refined it a bit more and changed the name to the 115. IIRC, that is.

They are the original 1212s with the prototype SiraTone controller. The tag on it says 1212. They were manufactured for the now defunct Zimmer nuclear power station. Federal Signal won the bid in 1980, but didn’t have any sort of electronic warning sirens in their lineup, so they got to work on project SiraTone. When Zimmer fell through the sirens got absorbed into surrounding communities. Many of them are no longer on their SiraTones due to the prototypes being significantly worse about popping components and ceasing to work. However some still have their SiraTones with them and still function normally.

Later on, Federal Signal introduced the 408 and 812 along with the M*12. The 1212 was renamed to the 115, but no one knows why. The only thing we can figure is that they decided to label it after it’s output volume (even though Federal overrated it at 119dB). Later the 1212 made a return with new Aluminum spun projectors along with its brother the 612. Both units were proven better overall, eliminating the 115, 408 and 812 from production. The 1212 was rated at 115dB and 612 at 124. The rest is history.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tylers right, i own one of these early 1212s that i bought from werden... i even have the manual which alot of people have not seen because it has not been scanned in. i was informed that they are indeed experimental eows 1212s and not 115s even though they share the same speaker head design and were called 115s at a later date.. take a gander at this post for more info. https://www.thesirenboard.com/forums/vi ... 20#p166254

Heres' the manual for it:

Yes I know the pic is sideways but I can't get it turned for some reason.

I have a video of one of the prototype 1212's in Campbell County, KY on my channel:

The description in that video gives a pretty good overview.
