ASC T-121 test Oak Ridge, TN

Thu Oct 05, 2017 9:19 pm

This was the second test of the day on October 4th, recorded in Oak Ridge Tennessee. This siren is part of the system for the national lab and is located behind the post office in downtown Oak Ridge. The sirens test on the first Wednesday of the month at noon in three minutes of alert and are used to warn of accidents at the Y-12 facility. This system was installed sometime around 2012 and replaced the old system of AL-6000R and AL-7200 sirens whereas the ETTP kept the older sirens. The system is mostly comprised of T-121s, however there are also a few T-135 DC sirens and some I-Force STI-3200s around the national lab. I hope to record one of the T-135s soon, but I have to say that the T-121 was quite potent. Here is the aforementioned video:

I actually tried to record the one accessible AL-7200 at the ETTP which tests at 11:00, however I watched it fail as all of the AL-6000Rs went off around me. All of the Alertronics which were not removed in the Oak Ridge/Y-12 security complex system are inactive and were replaced with Tempests, however the 6000Rs are still working well at the ETTP (former site of K-25). What I think happened is that the AL-7200 at the ETTP was used for on site warning and now that K-25 has been almost completely demolished, the 7200s no longer sound since there is not really anybody to warn on site.

Ok, cool. I knew one or two were physically standing, I should have been more clear in asking if they /existed as a functioning system./ Thanks for your info!
