Scottsbluff, NE THUNDERBOLT 1003 test

Thu Jul 13, 2017 1:35 pm

Hello all; just wanted to share a quick video of the now monthly test of the Scottsbluff siren system. This 1003 is located in the Westmoor neighborhood and has been there since then early 80's. It essentially situated in someone's back yard but since it's right next to an alley it's technically in a city right of way. This one along with the other 4 Thunderbolts we have are going to be replaced within the next few years. Sorry I didn't get the windup, I was messaging the emergency management director informing him the system wasn't activating, after a few minutes of tinkering it worked and I got a full 3 1/2 minutes instead of the usual 1 minute test.

Enjoy!

Yes, the Thunderbolt behind the caboose in that park still works. That one used to be located at the community college at one time. They all functioned for the test besides the East Overland one (the one in the park by Rosita's). That's the first time that one has failed and that's the siren I usually watch for testing. It's those damn radios that keeping malfunctioning. If they replaced them with modern Federal Signal radios it would solve the whole problem. Here is a picture of the controls for the Est Overland one, some city workers were kind enough to let take pictures of the controls while they were in the well house under the siren. That smaller black box is the radio receiver, they're starting to go bad on all of them.
