Harvesting the February crop: Pendergrass, Auburn and Decatur

Thu Mar 09, 2017 10:33 pm

I feel like being contrary - instead of all these dull March videos, how about something from the infinitely superior February? The fun has been doubled!

Sorry - you don't have to beat me with your keyboard. Actually, it took me over a month to actually get these done...my shiny new video editor had horrible stereo downmixing issues with them because of my own incompetence. Now that it's been mostly fixed, here comes a parade of Vortexes...

11:00 AM: Pendergrass finback goodness
This was technically the second test of the day - the first one was a failed attempt at Hall County (they seem to have changed their test schedule without updating their website...). Unlike my September attempt, this Vortex stayed on for the full three and a half minute test. And it was glorious.

12:00 PM: Auburn fails to clip
After Pendergrass, it was off to Auburn. I was hoping to catch the mythical 517 Hz siren supposedly located here, but unfortunately this one has a 560 Hz 2020 box on it...but to make up for it, I walked into the police station in search of a bathroom just in time to watch them set it - and the 4 others in the system - off. I shall return here...

5:00 PM: Decatur scares the park
This final test wasn't even on the agenda - we just happened to be around Decatur at the right time. The park was noisy, but the siren was noisier.

You can, as usual, find more details on each siren and system in the video descriptions.

Enjoy! And watch for more...I'm going back to Virginia and Maryland for a week or so soon, and I'm determined to film something. What will it be? Even I don't know...
Don't wait. Take a siren photo today.

That train horn in Auburn is eerie!
Welcome to Pennsylvania, where test days are few and far between. However, where there is one, you can find the recordings here! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTiIF1 ... q5mZXtMDnw

Pendergrass and Auburn are my neck of the woods! That Vortex sounds great, out of ALL sirens out there, the Vortex is just menacing. They're huge and loud, and the older version of Wail is my favorite one. It'll get your attention.
