Federal 2001-130 Attack in Dallas, TX

Thu Oct 08, 2015 5:07 pm

Here is the final video of the ones I shot yesterday of units here in the D/FW area. Dallas has a system of about 150(?) 2001-130's. Their coverage is pretty good, and most places have a decent amount of overlap. This unit is on a peninsula that sticks out in Lake Ray Hubbard. This siren is the eastern most unit in the system, and is really kind of a random unit. For whatever reason Dallas "owns" Ray Hubbard, even though no part of the actual city touches it. The unit goes off for the 90 second attack cycle. At the end you can hear some Whelens in wail that I think belong to the City of Garland's new 22-unit Vortex system. I was discussing this unit with Jeff yesterday, and we believe that Dallas shares activating authority of unit 143 with either Rowlett or Garland.

Here is a link to the map so you can see what I am talking about. Unit 143 well east of Dallas.

Those 130 installs are nice! They look very solid!

Definately a strange spot for a City of Dallas siren but yes that is the reason, because Dallas "owns" the lake. In fact the park it's located at is closed due to an upcoming major development of restraunts and lakefront living. Wonder if they'll relocate that siren?

Not to bump topics, but I do believe that it was relocated. Dallas' coverage map no longer shows it there.
For some reason, I believe sirens 146-149 weren't ever recorded on a map. Now they mysteriously appear on the new map. I find that kind of strange because usually the higher number indicates a newer install.
According to the new-and-improved map, 143 is now located in S/W Dallas.

For some reason, there's a lot of things that are wrong on Dallas' map. I came across 3 130 locations that weren't marked, an SRNB that's not marked, and I think 2 SRNs that aren't marked.

Of course we can't forget about their Thunderbolts, but those have been silent since 2014. I really wish they weren't set for the scrapper every time one get's removed. There's at least 51 Thunderbolts still standing in that system, and I bet almost all of them will fire up right now if you wanted them to.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Actually, Dallas' Thunderbolts have been silent since 2010 or 11 (although a few might've made it to '12.)
I have a master plan to acquire them, keep one, and donate the other fifty to towns that don't have sirens.
I've gotta find out when Oak Ridge blows their 'Bolt, that's an ex-Dallas siren and I'd love to get it on video.

That’s when they started silencing them and throwing up 2001s. They finished somewhere in 2014.

All the thunderbolts I went to in that time had already been decommissioned
