Lol everyone is covering their ears... Was it all that loud from the top of the garage? I thought 1000Ts weren't all that loud...

You must be half deaf to think a Thunderbolt isn't that loud.

I said a 1000T. I know the 1000s are loud. Not as attention getting but loud. I haven't heard a 1000T up close so up close I wouldn't know as much about how loud they are.

The 1000T is very loud. I have heard it up close personally compared to a 1000 and there wasn't too much of a difference. I have been 1,300 feet away from a 1000AT and it was still incredibly loud.

Oh I didn't know that. Thanks for clearing that up. I just remember hearing a 1000 on top of a school and that thing rattled me and punched me and yea. Then I heard people tell me the 1000s were louder so I guess I just assumed the Ts weren't as loud. In either case though the combination 6M blower and 4/5 chopper make this one sound amazing! On a 1000 you just hear the pulsing from the single tone so IMO it doesn't sound as smooth. Again thanks for clearing that up!

Hate to bump an almost 2 year old thread but I have a burning question to ask about this Thunderbolt. I was under the impression that Minneapolis got rid of all of their Thunderbolts and replaced them with Whelen Vortexes. How come this siren is still standing? And are there any other active Thunderbolts in the Twin Cities area?

I think it was discussed on YT a while back by someone... what I remember hearing is this siren is too hard to get down off the building so they are just letting her sing... or it’s owned by the university and they don’t want to get rid of it... man now I’m all curious too.

This Thunderbolt was supposed to be replaced, but the City of Minneapolis realized that they put this siren on the university’s campus, making this Thunderbolt their property. The university then decided to not replace it and then here it stands to this day. They also put in 4 Federal Signal DSA’s across the street on a building to kind of assist the Thunderbolt, which were installed recently as in about 4 years ago when the Whelen’s were replacing the Thunderbolts, this can be found here (Recorded by me) https://youtu.be/7CNQ_MYY3Ak . There are no other remaining Minneapolis 4/5 port Thunderbolts, they were all replaced by Whelen Vortex R4’s 4-ish years ago. Luckily I managed to scavenge one of them, which was on top of a school called Field. Haven’t heard of anyone else having saved one of them yet besides me. But Minneapolis sure did have one of or THE best systems in the entire country imo. If you guys have anymore questions about this Thunderbolt, ask away!

It’s all owned by the university. They could remove it easy peasy if they wanted to. Remember, they had to remove about 30 of them, and about 90/95% of them were on top of schools.
