Re: Cincinnati Metropolitan Area Sirens

I went out to the Massie Township 1003 and noticed 2 things. One: the tilting pole that the siren sits on has been corrected. It's not leaning anymore. 2. It's now pointing northeast instead of southwest like it was last month. Also, I went in behind the fire station to take a look at the 2 Thunder...

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

Well the second to the last Franklin County Bolt was scrapped. The last siren is installed on a building somewhere in the county and is destine to be removed at some point, probably next year. The condition of the scrapped bolt was bad. It was CUT down and was cut apart to take it down. The rotor g...

Photo taken circa 1980s Yessir, that's on my old Franklin County legacy map. I have an article from The Columbus Dispatch about it, fr...

What happened to West Milgrove Ohio's Model 5 or 7 that used to be on top of the village hall/fire station?

Is it going to be refurbished or replaced?

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

Plain City: They held an auction back in 2011 where they had at least one STL-10 listed. I don't know if that may have been located where the 2001 is now. I lived in P.C. from 2008-16 and they had the 2001 and the STL-10 that's still there. Marysville had a system of mostly STH-10's installed in 19...

*Siren #11 was originally an STL-10 and caught fire in Apr. 1974 tornado/replaced by T-Bolt IIRC
You happen to know if the STL that caught fire was mentioned anywhere in the news at the time?

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

1973 was the first year the CD sirens were used for a tornado warning thanks to the request of Mayor Tom Moody. That year had a record number of tornadoes. A 1952 article said that the initial system was planned to have "9 10-hp Thunderbolt sirens for a basic pattern" and "forty-four...

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

Got some slight updates here... I got some stuff from the Columbus Metropolitan Library the other day, as I now have full access to the archives of the Columbus dispatch. Unfortunately, the photo of the downtown Thunderbolt it seems is lost with time (and I'm referring to a photo of its location whe...

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

Need some assistance on some of these siren sites here, as I can't quite figure out what's what. There's some things on this list that are listed as sirens, but the image tiles are a bit too blurry for me to make out what's there. I'll start with #54: this siren is listed as follows on the master li...
