Thank you Elliot. Yes, I should have known. I saw a Denver FS 2001 which has a nice solar cell panel. Can they be entirely solar powered? I could not see any wires coming up it's pole from the ground, except for a lightning ground wire (I presume.) I like the idea of solar power so thathe pole can ...

Thanks Jim. I've never heard a growl. On the TBolt, do they also operate the air compressor along with spinning the rotor? Does one produce their own growl test by turning on the siren for just a second and turning power off? Or is it a built-in function in the controller circuitry? Are there DC ai...

Touching on the subject of radioactivity, there is a small amount of material in the mantles of camping lanterns ( Primarily Coleman brand, and I believe it is Thorium). Supposedly the newer Aladdin brand does not. Anywho, a generic lightning detector can be built with the burnt mantle material. Che...

We have similar setups in the Cincinnati area. Mason has the Opticom setup. Sharonville has a different looking sensor, which I would describe as a round horn-looking device with a half-circular shroud on the top half, and then a seperate blue beacon lamp. It seems that the shroud would block any si...

Re: Electronic Siren Rotator Questions (Vortexes and EOW 612

My question about the Vortex and EOW is why is it that the Vortex can only turn a full 360 degrees in one direction and then turn 360 degrees in another, where as the EOW 612 can turn a full 360, like the thunderbolt? Also, what does EOW stand for? Electronic Outdoor Warning System To go along with...

Whelenmobile

Yesterday, I was on I-75 in Cincinnati and saw what I believe to be a demo vehicle; a silver/grey Crown Vic with Ohio license plate WHELEN. It had a clear LED light bar, as well as LED rear deck and upper windshield lights all the way across. I bet it looks way cool in action!!!!

Whats next, an ARRERTOR?
Kidding aside, I say if it contributes to the safety for that country's people, then so be it. It is a working design, and if they can replicate it cheaper and save their gov't money, then go for it. No reason to be hatin'!!!

I think it should be redefined as Unidirectional, Rotational and Omnidirectional....examples being: The fixed position "custom" siren in Colerain, Ohio ( Hamilton County, Paul's Siren Archive)...this is the only true unidirectional siren I can think off. T-bolts are rotational, obviously S...
