Re: 1917 Denver Quadruplex siren restoration thread

Nice find! That should be a fun project. Any motor in mind for it?

Could that be a System 7000? Sure does look possible.
I don't think so. Based on pictures I Googled, the System 7000 enclosure was more like a cube than having a pair of long sides. That siren might be next to a RTU.

Re: What is the most mysterious siren?

That's a neat siren! I wonder how much air that took to run... I find it interesting that it came out of a Santa Fe yard - I imagine that ran on compressed air from a car maintenance shop or something.

Re: My new (to me) Thunderbolt siren!

I'm curious - are there any modern blower substitutes for the Thunderbolt that don't require 15 horsepower? I don't know enough about blowers to understand the relationship between power, pipe size, and air flow. I'd hope we've come some way since the siren was designed over 50 years ago.

Woah mate the service drop exploded by the looks. Wires heated up and melted together perhaps?
That's what I thought too - the sparks came from the conduit a few feet below the siren, not the siren itself, although it wasn't doing much better!

Re: My new (to me) Thunderbolt siren!

Congratulations - that's a nice-looking siren! I'd love to get a Thunderbolt sometime, but I need to get my Model 5 running before I can get that far :D

Re: There is a Hurricane at Sirencon right now!!!

I had no idea that the Hurricane's horn was so big! I want to say the Thunderbolt's horn is about half the size from the last time I stood next to one...

Re: CLM Siren Restoration

Thanks! It's nice to see an original CLM control unit intact. These controllers have a feature where you could have the siren idle at around 60 to 75 rpm to keep the motor from freezing up in the wintertime which is what that knob that points to 60 RPM means. That's pretty neat - I had no idea that...

I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes! I really like the work you put into your Mobil Directo, and I don't imagine any less effort going into this.

Re: How do I get the bottom part of the motor off my STH-10

I wonder how many STH/STL-10 siren motors look like that inside considering the motor is top-mounted. Any idea how old the siren is? I wonder if the weather seals wore out or if it was serviced in the past and not sealed back up properly. It all looks like surface rust to me. To be safe, I'd take it...
