Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

Got another two for you guys: One looks like a WPS 4008, but I have no idea. It doesn't have the "shroud" the 4008 is supposed to have. The other one, I have no idea http://maps.google.com/maps?q=41.528428,-93.959391&num=1&t=h&vpsrc=0&ie=UTF8&ll=41.528338,-93.959596&...

Re: Oregon's Thunderbolt is down! They're taking them all!

The more conversations you have with this guy the more I think he as no clue what he is talking about. I think someone higher up may be telling him what to say.
Granted, this is all one conversation. But if I call him back with a question he isn't expecting...

But then, maybe I already have?

Re: What type of siren could this be: The "TV/movies" Siren

I would almost agree that this would be a synth, but what would make that odd to me is that if it was designed to be a stock sound, why is there wind and traffic noise in the background? At 0:16, you can very easily hear some sort of motor vehicle in the background. But then, if it is real, what the...

Re: Oregon's Thunderbolt is down! They're taking them all!

I did mention that point when we talked on the phone. He is very well convinced that they are not worth the change of repairing/restoring/upkeep. Ain't that some bull... a lot of them have 3 phase motors like the HOR siren, so what gives? Something tells me that the reason he thinks they are...

Re: 2014 - The Google Earth Siren Hunt

Anything marked "unknown siren" or anything bearing the tags in the list on my first post. Most the unknowns are going to be among a pool of sirens that were from an era where everything was a model X with a different skirt (I have no experience with the older models, darleys and sterlings...

Re: Oregon's Thunderbolt is down! They're taking them all!

Did you not think to include that some people use old sirens for their own business? After huge success with Upson County, I would imagine that Jeb has people lined up for his work. They don't always go to sit in someone's garage or back yard. I would have put more emphasis on that than the siren m...

Re: Nice Sound Sirens

They sound both ungodly and very nice in attack. Here's a video of Austin, MN system. pi6xmF62jKM The closest one to the videographer is about 1500ft I remember this tone from the Minecraft tornado (now localized weather) mod. Due to the tornado's tendancy to take dirt off your world, I lived underg...

Re: Oregon's Thunderbolt is down! They're taking them all!

I apologize, I was thinking about Mount Horebs for some reason. Black Earth I suppose I knew about (or rather if you asked, I would be able to tell you it isn't there). I will probably have to see what's out there, I don't know when the next streetview/satellite pass will be, which is how I do most ...

Re: Siren placement

I don't know about the original CD days, but I know from my siren hunt that most cities use a fairly smart coverage range. Most civilization will be covered, and generally, where coverages meet they will be at about 70-80% of the sirens stated range. Louisville, Ky actually has a great map (within.....
