Re: Fantasy Siren Map Challenges!

Here is my map , although Google Earth decided to corrupt the file and delete 98% of the locations :\ . Here was the original story: The county of San Mateo had a civil defense system comprised of older Federal sirens (Thunderbolts, STL-10's, Model 5T's, and 3T22's) and a few fire sirens (Model 2's...

Re: My (somewhat) new Thunderbolt 1000T

I have now equipped the Thunderbolt with a 6.5 HP gasoline engine from Harbor Freight. This will make the system a bit more portable and will allow me to run the blower while I wait for the new 240V circuit. I am using a 6 inch 5L pulley on a 5L620 belt to run the 5M blower, however your belt could ...

Berry College I-Force from above [Not a test]

After acquiring a quad copter in the past few days, I thought that it would be a good idea to test it out at Berry College in an open field. Since I was at Berry, I decided to fly the quad copter above one of their I-Force sirens so that I could see one "up close". This is just a quick vid...

Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

I was in union NJ a month ago and i think i found what looks to be a HOR siro-drone or Fedelcode model 1 on top of an elementary school. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Union,+NJ/@40.7067049,-74.2557015,3a,15y,216.09h,103.4t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sQj2_zxkJFKSnn65oP5dp3w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s...

Re: My (somewhat) new Thunderbolt 1000T

I have to ask. Why did you pull out the chopper motor to run it? It's a lot easier running it in the siren than having it spin around on the floor. I wasn't planning on pulling the chopper motor out, because it was tested once I came to pick it up. The problem was that the electrical connection was...

My (somewhat) new Thunderbolt 1000T

After searching for some time, I discovered that Will T. (ARS member TNT1001) was selling his fully restored Thunderbolt 1000T on eBay for a price that I could not turn down. On September 10th, I picked up this unit after purchasing it a few days earlier. Now that it has been almost three months, I ...

Re: Choices on siren replacements. Any Ideas?

It might be more cost effective to see what's actually wrong with the existing 2001 and attempt to fix it before jumping the gun and setting the city's wallet on fire. I agree, a new control panel, motor, radio, etc. would be significantly cheaper than a completely new siren. If the city really doe...

Re: An update on the Cobb County siren system

While I hate to bump my own topic from over the summer, I recently found some time to see siren #19. Sure enough, it has been replaced with a shiny new Whelen Vortex. I did not have time to see #5, but considering the fact that a crew came to replace #19, #5 most likely met this same fate. Here are ...

Re: Jefferson County, AL siren graveyard update

On closer inspection, I think that Tbolt head in the 2nd photo down on the 1st post is the Chalkville siren. If you compare the back end of the control box to the picture Ian posted of the siren head on the roof, they look exactly the same, same rust spots. gray areas (I presume where the cabinet g...

Re: Jefferson County, AL siren graveyard update

Actually I don't think this is the case anymore. The technicians who used to work on these sirens no longer maintain them; if I recall correctly they either retired over the years or were laid off. This would make sense, because I noticed that the Thunderbolt 1000T at North Roebuck Elementary had a...
