Re: "Jailbar" Thunderbolt Locations

Nice map, however I am sad to say that the Thunderbolt on top of Birmingham City Hall was replaced with a 2001-130 within the past few months. I am unsure of whether it was in the yard when I went by in February, as the yard was closed at the time. That being said, I believe that there were one or t...

Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

Definitely a Sterling 2V8, been by it many times.. it used to be mounted on a building across the street, was moved as seen to the back of the firehouse and is now pole mounted next to the firehouse... Strinestown Fire Department in Pa I believe the siren mentioned is actually a Sterling 3v8, here ...

Oxford, GA SD-10 and Model 2 alert

I made the venture to Oxford, GA on Wednesday to catch the SD-10 Model 2 pair that is tested every Wednesday @ noon. This pair is located behind the Emory at oxford post office and is still sounding quite healthy. While the siren is on the edge of the college campus, it is operated by Newton County ...

Re: Where is this Jailbar Bumblebolt located?

I believe that the siren in the video was located in Wichita, Kansas but I am not completely sure about that. The siren in Tennessee is in Knoxville, Tennessee at a substation right off the interstate.

Re: eBay find, Thunderbolt... 2000?

The only blower box with a vent on the side is the 2000 blower box. The standard A1 and early A2 blowers did not have any vents. The later A2, B, and C series thunderbolts all have vents on the end.

Re: Evans County Georgia sirens

There is a Sterling M-10 located on the water tower near the fire department in Klaxon, GA, however this is the only siren that I know of in Evans County. I hope that I could help!

Re: Fort Oglethorpe, GA Model 3 in Attack

I am re-editing the video right now, it is indeed a Model 3. I did not get a picture of the pull station since it was deep in the fire station and I wanted to respect the firefighter's privacy, however it was a standard T-bar pull station with the three slots on it.

Fort Oglethorpe, GA Model 3 in Attack

Today, I was able to make it up to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia and see their Model 3 in 6 cycles of attack. This siren is an older Federal Signal Model 3, which was originally used as a fire siren but now serves as a severe weather siren. The sirens are tested on the first Saturday of the month at noon...

Re: Thunderbolt Blowers?

I believe the airflow and sound ratings are as follows: 6M: 300 CFM, 128 db on a dual tone, 129 on a single tone 5M: 350 CFM, 129/130 db on a dual tone, 130/131 on a single tone 4M: 250 CFM, 126 on a dual tone, 127 on a single tone I have found that the 6M has the attention grabbing "pulsating&...

Re: Thunderbolt Blowers?

The blower used on the A1 series was the size 6M blower, which has a 6 inch intake and a large pulley on it. Due to the large pulley, it runs at a slower speed which creates the pulsating sound, and is why A1 thunderbolts are usually not quite as loud. Here is what a 6M looks like (video not mine): ...
