Re: An End of an Era - Federal Electric Mach. 3

I hope the rotor isn't cracked! It's hard to see underneath all that dirt, but it sure looks like it. Only visible in one photo, were they both taken at the same date? Sorry for the suspense, but based on what I saw there weren’t any cracks. The rotors were loaded with tons of dirt and some twigs (...

Dawn of an Era - Federal Electric Mach. 3

Hello all, Sorry I haven't been active in a while; busy times abound. I have recently made some headway with an old friend. Ladies and gentlemen, we got em. Proud owner of a Federal Electric Type Mach. 3, 9/12 port dual rotor siren! Removal from the tower was pretty easy with help from a crane, but ...

Another Siren Mystery - Sterling...Denver...or What?

Hey all! I'm back once again to detail more mysteries from the Heartland, this time from a small unincorporated community in western Wisconsin. While scoping out a Wisconsin map when I saw a strange-looking siren on StreetView, as seen below: Red Mound StreetView.jpg After showing it to some peers, ...

Re: "Discreet" vs. "obvious" sirens - which do you prefer?

You know, I've actually never thought of this kind of classification before. I like it! Going off this, I like discreet sirens more. More of the earlier sirens fall into this category (with notable exceptions, of course, namely most of the "bench grinder style" sirens, but things like Denv...

Re: Possible Fedelcode C3 1/2 found in Turner Valley, AB

This one looks pretty similar to a Mach. 5 I found near me. The taller lower section of the housing usually indicates a single-phase siren (or in my case a two-phase one).

Re: Was the XT22 series more closely related to the STX-10s or the Model Xs?

If anything, I’d be willing to bet the 2/3T22 was more akin to what Federal tried in 1929/1930 with the dual-rotor Fedelcode models. Quite like the older counterparts the main problem with the ‘22s is their terrible range; even with the horns, the fact they are not tuned to amplify sound similar to ...

On my way home today I took a different route than usual. The sun as usual prevented me from getting good shots, but I did get a good look at an Alertor finally!
Wow that’s a second generation single-head Type B. Not many of those left out there!

Re: The Many, Many Designs of the Model 1

The story gets a bit more interesting regarding the Mach. 1… Based off this advertisement from 1929, there was yet another Model No. 1. This was a “general alarm siren” that shared the same 10 1/2” rotor as the Mach. 3 (pictured right alongside). It is unknown if these were truly 1 horsepower, but g...

What in the world is an “Archer” siren? Do you have any more pictures of the whole siren?
