Re: Chicago Thunderbolt still works!

It would be tough to verify that since it is a tall building and even google maps is not very clear. Yes I have a youtube account, you have commented on my videos. If it were me, I would shoot for 7:30. They are pretty consistent with it. They could go earlier or later, but I have seen it done at 7...

Re: Chicago Thunderbolt still works!

Probably no HOR sirens left. Very few of any old sirens left, and there were not many HOR s to begin with. The 7:30 time varies a bit, but it is between 6 and 8 AM. When I worked downtown I used to see it happen walking from the train station. They don't growl, just rotate half a turn or so. Oh I w...

Re: Chicago Thunderbolt still works!

I pass that siren everyday on my way to work in Cicero. The old system was put in place in the 1950's. Mainly Model 5's, STL's, a few Chryslers and I believe a couple HOR's. Thunderbolts were added a little later. Some were not added until the 70's. The system was decommissioned between 1988 and 19...

Re: Whelen truck at siren, Google maps

Nice...there is another one on Google Maps similar to this. Morton Grove IL, this was in the middle of a new installation. Also a Whelen...weird! https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Morton+Grove,+IL&hl=en&ll=42.047753,-87.776036&spn=0.000982,0.00203&sll=39.739318,-89.266507&sspn=8.32...

Re: Rosemont, Illinois...Siren?

Is it on the east or west side of the Tri-State? If it's by Muvico, then whatever it is is outside the airport completely. Could be for something else, still looks like some kind of exhaust. Still thinking possible emergency power generation for the convention center or something. East side. Maybe ...

Re: Rosemont, Illinois...Siren?

Hmm..I may have to check that out. It could possibly be exhaust or intake for something. I believe there are tunnels and service utility vaults underneath the airport. This could be for that. O'Hare also uses gas turbine generators for emergency power, this could be intake or exhaust for that. The ...
