Re: Alertus Found on the News (Flagstaff, AZ)

For anyone wondering why these are using the tones they do instead of the typical dual-tone European ones (415/425 Hz), the system in Flagstaff is actually using a newer controller that is made by Alertus. The company previously imported its controllers from Telegrafia or whoever makes their equipme...

Also, HA sirens were installed with ATI controllers? Are there any confirmed instances?
Not as far as I know. They had an image of an ATI cabinet on their website or one of the PDFs at one point.

Re: What exactly was ASI?

ASI is/was Alerting Solutions Inc. If I'm not mistaken, the company started off as Raytek Incorporated, which was a Hörmann dealership back in the 80s. They eventually became Hörmann/Hoerman of America and sold their ECN and E57 sirens in the US. Sentry once considered dealing with them for electron...

Re: What is the purpose of the Equinox?

As mentioned before, the siren's existence is mainly because of the now somewhat imploding nuclear market. It's not necessarily a flawed siren by any stretch; more so, it's not quite as efficient as the 508 when it comes to effective use of the sound being produced by the chopper. The Equinox was a ...

Waking Up A Hörmann HLS-273 After 15 Years

Neat video from Germany. This siren has been inactive since 2007, and the city decided to revive it after all these years. It sounds a bit rough at first, but it gets itself together after a few cycles of the warning tone. It's still running with its original diesel engine-driven generator and air c...

FS 2001-SRN AC/DC And MOD2008 test In Alpharetta, GA

I was up in Atlanta on Wednesday and decided to record these two sirens with my mom while I was up there visiting family. They are both located in the same park about a half mile away from each other. I parked the truck at the Modulator and had my mom record it while I walked over to the 2001. She w...

Re: Does a whelen controller work with an EOWS?

To answer the question about a Whelen panel being able to run non-Whelen sirens, yes for the most part. Whelen doesn't officially support using their controllers on other brands of sirens, but the amps are actually built to supply 500 or 400 watts to a 2.75 - 3 ohm load. Their current amps aren't to...

Re: Federal Signal 2001-130 Vs. 508-128

The 508 was created mainly because of regulations that nuclear power plants have requiring sirens that run in the 500 Hz range or close to it. Before FS created the Equinox, which the 508 is based on, the only sirens they had in their lineup that would hit this frequency range were the Eclipse serie...

Lion King Sirens On 60 Hz

I'm sure most of you here are familiar with the company Lion King Signals. TLDR for the uninitiated: Lion King is a Chinese company that produces a lineup of various emergency warning equipment including large motor-driven sirens, mainly of the AC variety. They've been mentioned here a few times mos...

Re: ATI's Modulator Clone

Since FS and ASC let their patents lapse and didn't reapply when they updated the design of the Modulator and I-Force respectively those patents became public domain. I'm not an expert on law but I think they had the opportunity to do it when they transitioned to the newer designs, ASC especially si...
