Re: Federal Model 7 Noon Blast, Bushnell, Illinois

Nice! Export, PA has a 'Bolt 1003 and a Model X mounted in this same configuration. The 1003 is active for fire calls, but I believe the Model X is inactive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8C2n1wb7uc

Re: can the design of the chopper/rotor effect the sirens output?

One thing I've always wanted to see is if a rotor with a size such as an STH-10 could be supercharged by some sort of blower. However I think a blower powerful enough to supercharge it would be impractical and uncalled for in a standard outdoor siren system. I'd still like to see how much you could...

Re: Cool Tornado Siren Find in Algood TN

Sweet find! Very pleased to see they’ve kept this old Sterling operational, especially knowing a 2001 is right nearby. Great photo!

Re: Train Horn Range?

I wonder if the tone of a horn carries further than that of a siren "even though they're not any louder"?

Re: Train Horn Range?

I live in Silver Lake, Indiana, which is right near the Norfolk Southern Marion Branch. There is an NS "diamond" (intersection) in Claypool, a town five miles north of me, and I can hear the horns clearly on most days. Sometimes I can hear the horns of trains from almost 10 miles away on ...

Sorry to bump. I live about 8 miles from the Norfolk Southern B-Line in Northern VA and we hear the horns clearly all the time!

Re: Square Horned STL-10s?

OMG! I had absolutely no knowledge of the siren in Fairfax! I'll have to go check it out sometime. The Warrenton STL-10 is still there, and is tested 3 minutes of attack every Saturday at noon. I know of a few other square-horned STLs in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New York. If you want, I can send ...

Nice video! Allertors are one of my favorite sirens and always like seeing them still in operation.

Re: Why would you make this housing for this Model 7 / 5 and put it in the wrong place?

Clearly, whoever built this "housing" is not knowledgeable about sirens. However, one may logically assume that the top is where the sound comes out since it would likely travel further.

East Providence, RI has a B&N Mobil-Directo atop Rumford Center. The address is 20 Newman Avenue.
Just found that on Google Maps...that's a nice looking one too! Has a nice coat of paint.
