Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

That's actually a T-135 AC/DC. Looks like it's just a little above average height to me. It might look above average, but it's way taller. If youve ever seen those wooden high tention power lines, the ones with 3 sets of wires, it's one of those, which are almost twice the size of a normal telephon...

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

In Wapella Illinois, there is a Model 5 at the firehouse. It's a lot lower in person. https://www.google.com/maps/place/402+Co+Rd+10,+Wapella,+IL+61777/@40.2206729,-88.9605546,3a,39.3y,242.71h,94.68t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sKi8B6fKgnNbKFWRFbwoLxQ!2e0!4m2!3m1!1s0x880b44a02148d63d:0xb39ee05dd42bc8ba Also,...

Re: How many counties still use thunderbolts?

That is true. I lived in Bloomington for quite a while. 8 Thunderbolts are still operational, 2 were replaced in my time there. (2011-2016) They also had a ACA Penetrator that just got recently replaced.

Re: Quadcopter siren

That could be a helpful way to warn people without perminate sirens, like how in England's flood areas, they use trailers with carters on them, use this instead!

Re: Found a Chrysler on top of the Poinsett Hotel

The sirens are only manned in an emergency, they would send people to set them off, at least, that's what I know. They use a bar and some controls that work like a Throttle and Clutch, getting it to speed and then activating the siren itself.

Re: Found a Chrysler on top of the Poinsett Hotel

If it was refurbished and put back up, it most likely wouldn't be used on a set basis. You have to man a chrysler siren to run it. It isn't controlled like other sirens.

Re: Found a Chrysler on top of the Poinsett Hotel

Getting a suitable helicopter to do all that... boy that's gonna cost a lot. He mentioned that the hotel owners were the people who wanted it restored and taken down, so they most likely would pay for most of it, and there are several Chryslers around the US in the hands of Collectors that work, un...

Re: Vintage siren photos thread

I'm looking for a clip where it's visible better, but I'm pretty sure there is a Model 5 on top of the City Hall in the movie Children of The Corn. The town where it was filmed in is Whiting Iowa. They now have a screamer at the firehouse nearby.

Yes. Edd was planning on climbing the tower to get to the siren, but the control board fuse blew out, and it couldn't be run anymore.
