Re: North Central Texas Siren Hunt 1-3-15

I wondered what happened to Comanche county's old Thunderbeams. I remember driving thru the area years back and seeing them popping up more and more as you got closer to the old nuclear plant. Glad to hear they weren't scrapped!

Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

Sorry if this or a similar siren has already been posted. Didn't really feel like flipping through 107 pages to confirm/deny. Here's a couple pictures I took of a siren I found while exploring small central TX towns. Maybe it's just a custom housing the town whipped together for an ordinary siren (D...

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

I know I know I KNOW this siren has been mentioned already, but I've only seen street view pictures of it posted. Maybe there are other photos I haven't seen of it, but I figured I'd throw the ones I took just in case. Lott, TX Thunderbolt https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Kg1mgR7SJ_M/VH0AfpvIF6I/A...

Re: Thunderbolts in Cedar Hill, Texas

Those installs look very similar to the Dallas system of T-bolts. Maybe installed around the same time by the same install company. I found an old emergency management document that says the Cedar Hill units were installed in 1985, which is a lot newer than the old Dallas system. Maybe the Dallas s...

Re: What is your favorite attack mode?

Some of you guys will probably get this one. This Thunderbolt was posted on the Siren Archive a long time ago, and if memory serves was a project Jim Marcoz personally worked on. Regardless, it's been my favorite siren recording for the past, oh, twelve years or so; love the way the sound just casca...

Re: Siren Craziness In Fort Worth!

To get back on track, Since these two sirens (The Allertor and Gridfaced 1000) were taken down, what all remains in Fort Worth as far as the old siren system is concerned? I know of a handful of Thunderbolts (maybe 7 or 8?) still in place, one or two P-10s, one sth-10 and that's about it, although ...

What's the outward difference between a Model 5 and 7?

So, something I've been wondering for awhile, what is the physical difference (if there is one) between a Federal Model 5 and 7? Say you're driving and spot one or the other, how can you outwardly identify them from apparent physical disparities? Am I missing something? They look like clones. (Also,...

Re: Siren Craziness In Fort Worth!

no way! is that Allertor the "weather vane Allertor" of fort worth? The one that blows in the wind because there is no chain in its rotator? I knew of at least three Allertors in Fort Worth with broken rotator chains that would all blow around in the wind like this. I guess it's kind of a...

Re: High mounted sirens in the US

It's funny, I was actually talking about this siren on a totally unrelated note earlier today. It's an old 1000 in Fort Worth, TX, that's since been removed. Photo credit to Eric Green at civildefensemuseum.com http://civildefensemuseum.com/sirens/fwold/triptwo/89M.JPG Definitely one of the tallest ...
