Re: New Toy: Hand operated VILMA

Despite the fact this is my fourth siren restoration, and the previous sirens where in quite rough condition, I'm totally stuck right now. I had a very hard time trying to drill the stator cover, given that the screws were completely corroded. I have finally removed the cover but now I'm facing two ...

Re: New Toy: Hand operated VILMA

The opened gear box and the chopper. The gears are in perfect shape and seem well lubed.

Νο, it was on a local site. I will make a video as soon as I restore it. It's quite loud!

New Toy: Hand operated VILMA +VIDEO!

It seems I'm finally able to get my hands on a (very rare to find in market) Greek siren. This model is a circa 1965 hand operated VILMA. It works fine, except some noises heard from inside (?) I hope nothing is wrong with the gears. The problem is that some screws are heavily corroded and I'm afrai...

It must be directional, the shroud projects the sound in one direction. It says it was installed on a dam, where directional sound projection is often needed.

NEVA55 Attack & All Clear

Recording of an "uncovered" VILMA NEVA55 in Athens' annual siren test, sounding attack and all clear signals. (380 V - 5,5 kW - 9 ports - 420 Hz)

Re: Federal Signal Equinox 9-4-14

I keep wondering why they had to develop a totally different siren, the 508, while they had already the Equinox with the same pitch (?), which is actually a modified 2001. Maybe the 2001 design is not so effective with lower pitches, given that the projected sound comes only from the chopper ports?

Re: Model x in Komotini, Greece?

It seems the siren is indeed a Fedelcode model 2 (or 3?). Probably the one and only American siren in Greece. A real mystery how it made it to Thrace...
