Re: Siren suicide!

Stator and roof made it home. Motor and rotor stayed behind. To pull out the rotor, the motor has to be in vertical position. And this is the real issue, since the nuts that hold the motor foot on the tripod are totally corroded and stuck. Even tried with a (very expensive!) nut splitter tool with n...

Re: Siren suicide!

I've always wondered how that curved rotor blade design made it sound. Maybe not so pop pop poppy? I've been told by the manufacturer that this design achieves a deeper tone. While the rotor runs, the ports are never completely shut. Maybe a sound (or acoustic) engineer could explain it. 2pkisKuaKDs

Re: Siren suicide!

I think it was just missing the drachma. I believe very few people are really missing the Drachma.( I don't know what sirens think though :P ) Back to topic, I had a very hard time trying to unbolt the roof and the motor foot with no luck. The siren was exposed to weather elements for 40 years. I'm...

Re: Siren suicide!

Thanks. It won't be easy at all. After another visit, I found out that the motor shaft is bent, not broken. Which makes things worse, since there is no easy way to remove the rotor. Of course every bolt is heavily corroded, I don't know if I can release them. The siren weighs about 60kg. (132 lbs) F...

Siren suicide! (NEVA55 restoration)

Maybe it's the Greek financial crisis, it seems this NEVA55 decided to dive from the roof of this abandoned school. The school is located very close to where I live and the siren was disconnected for many years. I have always thought about getting it, but the lack of space (I already have many siren...

So the siren motor is DC or they use a converter?

Re: New Toy: Hand operated VILMA -help needed!

Restoration completed! I have to tell you it was not easy at all. The siren bearings have been replaced and it was painted in the original colors. (Sikkens car paint) The siren has 8 ports and it can reach 92 dB @ 30 M at full speed.
