Re: History Producer Looking To Record a Working Siren aroun

Oh it was kx250rider who owned the SD10s. And cool... I thought the thunderbolt was from texas or something. The Thunderbolt I have installed at the house in Moorpark came from another siren collector in Wisconsin (My wife and I drove back there to get it in 2007). I know I remember that collector ...

Re: History Producer Looking To Record a Working Siren aroun

Yes, I have two of the Federal SD-10s; as were used in the older parts of the City of LA, as well as a Thunderbolt 1000T (used in Beverly Hills and a few other incorporated LA County cities). The Fort Mac Arthur museum at San Pedro has a restored & working Federal 500T, which was also used in th...

Re: Fort Worth Sirens Being Prepped For Spring

That's cool, that they showed you working on it! That's great advertising too for your company. I had always figured that the sirens in most cities were worked on by city or county workers, but between you and several other private contractors on the board, I guess a lot of cities are farming out th...

Re: What year were Model 5s discontinued?

I think there's a Chinese company still making "Model 5s". I remember them showing up on eBay a lot in the late 2000s. If I recall, they were very good clones of the Federal Model 5. So my guess is that Federal Signal sold off the Model 5/7 patents to whomever that company in China was, af...

Re: Thunderbolts of Dallas Tx

That map looks very accurate, with only one thing I found: F.S. #10 is at Frankford & Gibbons; had a 1000A(T) but is now gone, and the new siren is a mile west on Frankford near Midway. They demolished & rebuilt F.S. #10 about 5 years ago, at which time the T-Bolt was taken down. That was my...

Re: Thunderbolts of Dallas Tx

A lot of them are still up, but my understanding is that none still are in use. I'll take a drive around in the next week or 2, and try to verify some. The one at Hillcrest High School is (was as of New Years) still up.

Re: Three phase at home

It's hard to get power companies to give 3-phase service, as you almost have to show a legitimate need (not just a hobby). Best bet is to get a rotary phase converter with a 10hp rating, if you want to have 3-phase power at home. Or as Holler says, you can get a 3-phase generator. I have a big one (...

Re: Extremely Rare Sirens

I have no idea which siren is the least common, but I know I've only ever seen one Federal 550T (dual-headed 500T). But that might just be me… Also, the gasoline-powered T-Bolts are rare, IMHO.

Re: Amazing Antique Store Find *Rare*

Shocking find!!!! Congratulations, and I'm sure happy that it was found by one of us, and not someone who might turn it into a lamp, or something weird.

Re: The Beverly Hills, CA Thunderbolts; Anyone have pictures

The SD-10 is gone. I looked at both of the intersections you mentioned. Were the Tbolts pole mounted? The two that I saw the photos of, were pole-mounted. If I can't find those pics on this site, or on the Internet someplace, I bet I have them saved on an old computer. I think I found and posted th...
