Re: Raytec sirens? (Update: confirmed to exist, more info still needed)

From https://www.hoermann-ws.de/en/company/history-our-sirens : "In 1979, with the takeover of Raytek, HÖRMANN also opened its first company headquarters in Silicon Valley: HÖRMANN sirens were in the USA. " This explains why the horns of the Raytek siren look like the horns of the HLS-273 ...

Portable Acoustic Hailing Demo

I gave the above demonstration of my self-built portable acoustic hailing speaker (similar in concept to the LRAD) at a gathering of audio enthusiasts in northern Indiana over the past weekend. It uses four 2"-exit, 200W compressi...

Re: Sentry Electronic Siren: The SV-8

Ok, thank you for re-posting the image. That's kind of an interesting design and I like the idea of staggering the speaker magnets to fit them in the cabinet. The speakers they are using are pro sound units made by B&C speakers, and they already have cones that are treated with a waterproofing c...

Re: Sentry Electronic Siren: The SV-8

Before I forget to ask, any chance of getting the SV-8 photo re-uploaded so we can see it? I'm very curious to see what configuration they are using.

Re: Sentry Electronic Siren: The SV-8

A prism-shaped housing with line arrays of direct-radiating transducers is covered by a patent owned by Curtis Graber of Wattre, Inc., which is made under license by HyperSpike. That being said, this is not the only way to construct a high-output array of direct radiating transducers. The benefit to...

Re: Edwards Audalert photos?

I'd be interested in the control cabinets - I wonder how they were activated, what amplifier configuration they used, etc.; did they drive all four horns from one amplifier or four separate amplifiers?

Re: Public Radio Story About Phoenix Sirens

This story leaves me slightly cold. While it brings recognition to collectors of old air raid sirens, it also promotes individual cell phone warnings as the way forward, when these systems have numerous shortcomings and their own problems with reliability - problems which are not shared by sirens wh...

Re: Jersey Village getting Sentry VR sirens?

Much. I was a little taken aback. But I guess quality>size. So the spec sheet value of 148dB from the HyperSpike web site is a figure measured at 1 meter, which is the standard measurement distance for loudspeakers. But the standard measurement distance for outdoor sirens is 100' (~30 meters). At t...

Re: Jersey Village getting Sentry VR sirens?

The siren is already there - it's on Google Street View at 7960 Senate Ave, at the south end of Carol Fox Park. http://www.taterworks.com/www/images/SentryVR_CarolFoxPark_7960SenateAve.png Now you know what to do - someone near Houston go get us a recording. Because it's a HyperSpike MA-2 emitter, i...
