Re: Motors on the Thunderbolt Single Phase and Model 2 Single Phase

Federal made their own motors, there's no similar motor that'll properly fit any Model 2 or Thunderbolt.

Also, all Model 2/Thunderbolt chopper motors are single phase (and the Thunderbolt/Model 2 have the same chopper motor). They're actually Universal, they can run on AC or DC power.

Nice! Someone should re-record it if possible... "25 years later..."

Re: First recording we heard of a 1003 in Hi/Lo

The question arises... is this Thunderbolt still up? If so, is it still operational?

Re: Denver siren? and bell

Looks and sounds more like a Federal Type B to me, AKA that siren everyone calls the Federal Lion.

Re: Flea market find, can't identity?

Ah, this is an Archer siren. They were sold by Radioshack for a long time. They're 110V.

Re: Flea market find, can't identity?

Looks like a Universal Security Instrument siren. These sirens are not hard to find. If the motor is relatively flat on the top and bottom, it's 110V. If the motor is perfectly round, it's 12 volts.

Re: Why are the ambulance sirens getting quieter?

It's not impossible that they may have turned down the volume for some reason such as complaints. That's the whole reason the NYCFD doesn't use the original Q anymore- too loud. They use EQ's so they can turn down the volume a little bit so it's not as loud.

Re: Why are the ambulance sirens getting quieter?

Could be hearing loss, could be the fact that cars are getting more and more sound-proof as the years progress. Probably both.

It can tap fuel straight from a gas line. Then you wouldn't have to fill up the tank every month or so.
