Re: Sirens in Rapid City and Sioux Falls SD (type of sirens and testing schedule)

No. I'm planning on moving to either place because for me, Aberdeen, SD is too small of a place for me. Sure, we have Walmart, Target, a mall, a bunch of hotels, and a really great downtown area, but as far as jobs go, there's not many available. Moving to a bigger city means I'll have a lot more to...

Sirens in Rapid City and Sioux Falls SD (type of sirens and testing schedule)

Does anyone here live in Rapid City or Sioux Falls, SD? I want to know what models of sirens and the testing schedule. Thinking of moving to either one of these places and I want to be informed. I currently live in Aberdeen, SD and the sirens are tested (I believe) every Wednesday evening around 6--...

Re: Lucas county's 5 am growl..?

Sounds more like a silent test, I've heard of places doing it in the early morning hours like that before. I guess it wasn't silent enough this time lol IIRC yes, the "silent test" for both Federal signal and ASC is a growl that the controller uses to check if the motor is drawing current...

Re: Lucas county's 5 am growl..?

Why would a siren system do a growl test so early in the morning? Does not make any sense to me. I mean I know some sirens are used as time signals (E.G. Noon blasts, 6 PM, curfew) but a growl test even before the ssun is up? *Scratches head*

Re: Why the First Wednesday of the Month?

I know that Champaign, IL has its sirens tested nearly every first Tuesday of the month at 10 AM. In Aberdeen, SD, during most Wednesdays during the year, sometime around 6 PM the sirens get tested. We mostly have 2001 SRN-Bs and some form of an EOWS. I've heard the EOWSs running Hi-Lo and pulsed wa...

Re: Post your weather radios here.

I always thought it was cool to see that once an alert is issued, those Reecom systems tell you how long the alert will last.

Re: What do sirens in your area warn of?

Both Brown County (Aberdeen, SD) and Walworth County (Mobridge, SD) has mostly FS 2001 SRN B's, and Mobridge has a downtown siren that used to go off for 10 PM curfews during most summers I was there, but it's now used to call volunteer firefighters to the fire department. I'll have to record a vide...

Re: TVA Kingston Federal Signal Modulators Custom Hi-Lo Tone

I like the pitches of this sound. Usually the hi-lo sounds I've heard are higher.
