Re: Madison County & Redstone Arsenal, AL Siren History

All of the older ones like that were 2Ts on our system.

Re: Madison County & Redstone Arsenal, AL Siren History

I have to wonder which siren it was, though I willing to bet that it was either the Model 2 in Triana. Our last list of the tone activated sirens was in 1999: MC-2 MAYSVILLE CENTRAL VFD 3179 MAYSVILLE RD., MAYSVILLE MC-4 MOORE’S MILL VFD 177 PLAZA DR., MOORE’S MILL (A new station has been built sin...

Re: Madison County & Redstone Arsenal, AL Siren History

This is my own small contribution to Madison County siren history. I made the recommendation to go to continuous 360 degree warning sirens vs. rotating ones. The first 5 have been installed and are among the new sirens on the new activation system currently being installed. Here is a video of a manu...

Re: Madison County & Redstone Arsenal, AL Siren History

This is how we activated the sirens from the 1960s until the 1990s. The last siren was taken off this type activation in 2001:

It was a Motorola Quik Call 1 encoder (the same tones you heard in the TV show Emergency!

Re: Why do you guys hate 2001's so much?!?

Personaly, I don't like the 2001 series siren because of the 750hz pitch. Just seriously? I thought Federal Signal knew that the lower the pitch, the further it carries. It's hard to believe the 2001 series siren can even be heard up to 1 Mile. I'm sorry if this does not apply to you all, but that'...

Re: ACA P-10 Siren Alert Test - Florence, AL - 7-17-15

I am surprised you haven't filmed the one battery backup Sentry siren in our system yet. As an added goodie, it gets a growl test 12:00, Tornado Warning (steady) 12:01 1 minute and an Attack 12:03 for 1 minute. It is a 16HP, instead of the 20V2T that you saw installed. I was wondering if you were do...

Re: Chaffee Elementary School RSH-10 "Thunderbeam" Siren Growl Test 6-3-15

Sorry about the short test. The "growl" is actually our correct procedure for the test. However, as this video shows, it doesn't exercise the siren much. We try to periodically do a longer test by "Tornado Warning" for about 20 seconds then "Stop". That lets them rotate...

Wonder why they use the wavering "air-raid" tone instead of the steady ALERT tone?
