Great news!

Apparently, the Castlepoint (there are 11 sirens in Castlepoint. One in Benfleet, and 10 on Canvey Island) sirens aren't going - brilliant!

Haven't paid much attention to the board lately... had other things to do!

I don't know. I have a feeling they are 3 phase, but it'd be nice to get hold of one. If I can get any more info on when (and if - there is still a battle going on by the sounds of it) they are going, I might try.

Canvey Island flood siren photos

A few of the ones I took this morning. These poor sirens are likely to be scrapped soon. I think they are all of the Castle Castings type, ex-air raid, been used for flood sirens for yonks. There's 10 of them in Canvey Island and there is a list here: clicky http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3377/57996...

If it has voice then likely they are EST Genesis Speaker/Strobes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNt69-M7VYc is an EST Genesis horn/strobe and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUzkYGgI5y8 the normal EST3 message is heard in that video. EDIT: Heard better here, first device seen is an Integrity speaker...

The EST3 is a panel. You can hook up any regular notification appliance to it, assuming it either runs on 24v DC or you can get an adapter module (ie SmartSync TrueAlerts). Generally they are installed with EST Genesis horn/strobes, or there is a version of the panel with a voice evac controller ins...

They are only running it at 50%. 1/3 actually, they are meant to run on 72 and it's running on 24. [/smartass] So these are powered by 6 12v batteries? Was'nt aware they were 72 volts. Correction 33% :P Just to be picky it's 33.33% (recurring) :P They do say in the video it was meant to be run off ...

In the video it's only powered off 1/3 of it's rated voltage... but I would imagine the horn shape would give it a somewhat similar tone to the T-128

Somehow I seriously doubt it has a broken rotor. Rotator maybe? :P
