Re: Question regarding a Buchanan, MI siren.

If you're referencing that antenna up top, that's likely an antenna for some city agency. Berrien County does not have a set test time outside of Niles, so it's either a fire call siren or a noon siren if it's still active. There were a few more like it around the area, however one was removed with...

Question regarding a Buchanan, MI siren.

Greetings all, Recently while looking at a Michigan siren map, I came across an old Federal Electric Fedelcode type 5/7 in Buchanan, MI. There are no videos of it on YouTube and I cannot find any news articles or other forms of media about it online. It's got what looks like a fairly new and elabora...

Re: Siren parts

Apologies for the bump, but does anyone know a suitable, affordable replacement motor for a Federal Sign & Signal model D?

Model 5 Wiring Diagram?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a 1979 Federal Signal model 5A wiring diagram, does anyone have one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Abandoned new FS modulator project

For clarification, this wasn't the 2nd generation modulator right? Federal had a modulator revision that made the individual cells narrower. Fostoria Ohio's modulator is the chubby gen 1 while a gen II would be one like mt Vernon IL's Modulators (the ones that replaced the 612's.) Federal doesn't l...

Re: Abandoned new FS modulator project

Is there any pictures of the modulator? Negative. So the siren got dropped off the equipment before they took pictures? To my knowledge, it was a test model they were experimenting with. They hadn't taken any professional photos for marketing. And yes, it was dropped off of a forklift and was destr...

Abandoned new FS modulator project

Hi all, Recently, I was talking to a family friend who used to work for the Federal Signal research and development department in the late 1990s-early 2000s. He told me about a modulator prototype that was going to be tested, however the people who were transporting it to the testing location droppe...

Re: Chrysler-Bell Victory Siren Operators

This is a good question. IIRC, somewhere along the line, many of these sirens were rigged to start up and operate without an operator. The second generation of Chrysler air raid sirens were equipped to activate via telephone line signals, however I'm referring to the earlier models of Chrysler-Bell...

Chrysler-Bell Victory Siren Operators

Hey everyone, This is a question that I've had for a while now, so I thought I'd ask it here. When the Chrysler-Bell victory siren was in service and had to be activated manually, who would be the one to climb up into the operator's seat and operate the siren? Was there a special position for this i...
