Re: Anyone know what siren this is?

Thanks for your reply. One other member suggested that also, and that's the direction I'm leaning. The rotor and stator sure look like an FS 5/7, but not the motor. Trying to find some pics of a naked Siro-Drone to compare, along with info on the proper starting components for the single-phase capa...

its actually a H.O.R. siro-drone im good at identifying mystery sirens Thanks for your reply. One other member suggested that also, and that's the direction I'm leaning. Re: Federa Model 5 tag

Don't mean to high jack but I'm curious now, 5hp rated and 54 amps at 240? Every single phase 5hp Motor I've ever seen has been around 25 amps, 30 at most. I've also never really seen manufacturers under rate HP. 54 is more like 10 hp. Anyone know know what the deal is? Just curious, sorry for the ...

Re: Anyone know what siren this is?

I believe you have a Federal model 3 siren. It is for sure a Federal siren, and the reason I believe you have a model 3 is due to the shorter motor. If you look up pictures of the chopper/motor assemblies of Federal model 5/7's they have a longer motor, where the model 3 has a shorter motor. Thus I...

Re: Anyone know what siren this is?

Actually I think that's a HOR Siro-Drone. I had no idea they used capacitor start/run single phase motors either. Thanks for the reply! After reading your post, I've looked at a bunch of Siro-Drones. Indeed, some have very similar looking motors, not exact, but the closest I've found so far. But th...

Re: Anyone know what siren this is?

I too believe it to be a Model 3. I would be able to confirm if I saw the housing (if it has housing). Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately this guy came naked, no housing. From what I've read so far, the model 3 has a 14" rotor, while this one is 18" like a 5/7. And all of the Model X sin...

Re: Anyone know what siren this is?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm still learning how to use this site. It sure looks like an FS 5/7 to me, with the exception of the capacitor-start motor, which appears to be the original. This one has the 18" rotor like the 5/7's, I've read that the model 3's only have a 14" rotor. I ...

Re: DC motors in modern sirens

I'm new here, and see that your post is a bit old. But if you haven't found your answer, a company called Warfield Electric makes the DC motors used in many Federal sirens, from the model Q firetruck siren, up to the 2001, 508, and Eclipse 8 outdoor warning sirens. 6.5 HP and 48 volts are common for...

Re: Sirens and Watertowers

Putting sirens on / near water towers made sense.
1. An existing, high, sturdy place. Often centrally located.
2. Government-owned property.
3. 3-phase power already available, used for water pumps.

Re: Anyone know what siren this is?

I should add that in the pictures, it looks a bit shorter and fatter than it really is. It is 24" tall overall, the outside diameter of the siren stator is 22", and the chopper is about 18" diameter.
