Re: 1983 SoCal Edison Model 120 assembly pictures

Why did they choose to build custom sirens as opposed to buying units from Federal or ACA like all of the other plants did? additionally, the remaining units are inactive, and are extremely rusty to the point of missing horns. part of me thinks the Model 120 would have held up much better. When the...

Wow, that is actually surprisingly cool, how big is the model 120 compared to a cyclone or Similar siren? Such as a 3T22/2T22?
They are 60" by 75.5". The horns are what really make them look big, but are only 5 feet tall and a little over 6 feet in diameter.

1983 SoCal Edison Model 120 assembly pictures

Not really on ARS a whole lot anymore, but there are some guys on here still from the old board that discussed about them who aren’t in the Facebook group, but for those who haven’t seen them on the siren enthusiasts Facebook group, I just received these in the mail from the designer about a month a...

Model 120 dissembled

For those who ever wanted to see what the Model 120 looks like taken apart, well here is your chance. You can see the Teflon coated stator walls and Teflon coated rotor. This was a unique design and feature of the 120 as to not allow for air to leak around the rotor when the ports close, and as well...

Re: A few Curry County, Oregon ex SONGS STL-10s found

I don’t know if this really derails this thread or not, but it’s still on the topic about SONGS’s sirens. So in the EPZ of the plant, one of the jurisdictions with the sirens is a state park just south of the plant, and there was 3 locations in that state park labeled SP-01, 02, and 04. But your pro...

Re: A few Curry County, Oregon ex SONGS STL-10s found

A lot of the coastal counties in oregon did. tillamook county switched to mobile, as did curry county and I believe a few others. It would make more sense if phones didn't have batteries that could die, couldn't be silenced, were glued to your arm and had a perpetual 4 bars of cell service. of cour...

Re: A few Curry County, Oregon ex SONGS STL-10s found

I'm going to try and get in contact with curry county's EMA director and chat with him a bit. as for the cabinet, it likely was openable but i didn't think to check it. That would be fantastic. Please ask him for all the locations, and ask him by chance if they got any Model 120s, just describe it ...

Re: A few Curry County, Oregon ex SONGS STL-10s found

AAGH, the cabinet had no lock and i didnt try the handle .... ill get it next year. yeah, the coastal air here is pretty rough, and i'm pretty certain its the fact that the mornings on the oregon coast are almost always super foggy. Yeah, I realized today that the siren was indeed on a sentry mount...

Re: A few Curry County, Oregon ex SONGS STL-10s found

I was down in brookings today and decided to take a look at the STL 10 in pistol river. turns out, it is indeed an Ex-SONGS siren, siren #CP-09 to be exact. the second STL-10 head is no longer there, it may have been moved inside the building or used to replace a different siren. the siren head at ...
