Wausau WI siren fails to sound during test.

During today's test the siren closest to my house failed to sound. The siren is a thunderbolt 1000t that covers a large area of the city. During last week's test the thunderbolt did sound, but it was a lot quieter that it should have been. This makes me think there is something wrong with the blower...

Re: What type of siren could this be?

I always wondered about that one too. I figured it was a model 2, considering how much it sounds like this recording. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukTrWxIURe4 It was used in the song Escape by Metallica http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRKwa4vWRdQ , which is from their 1984 album Ride the Lightning...

Yes, definitely a Denver siren. You can really tell from both this angle and this angle too.
Never heard of Denver sirens.

Re: What type of siren could this be?

I always wondered what that siren was.

I keep hearing recordings of it all over youtube and such. I think the wind down is too short to be a T-bolt 1000. I think it may be an artificial sound effect.

Re: Lansing MI mystery siren solved

Nice story and pics. Lansing doesn't seem too have much siren history pre Thunderbolts. I have often wondered what sirens were before the T-bolts. Seems they would have had something in WWII times and the 50's being the big industrial town it was. Last I knew, City of Jackson still has a Sparton (t...

Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

Here are a few more pictures of Australian rotating sirens. I have no idea where any of them are, though the second two pictures came up when I looked up sirene serangan udara on google images, which is Indonesian for air raid siren. That poor Allertor looks like it is in bad shape. I can understand why they took down this one.
