Siren Mounting Height Chart

Recently, I've been pondering about the engineering of siren systems and whatnot. (Playing around with radiuses compared to a sirens db rating) in and around certain cities. I've also been reviewing functional siren systems such as those in Chicago, Cincinnati, and other major cities. I've used soun...

Re: SONGS former hand built siren FOUND!!!!!!!!

An even better question, was the hi-lo signal regularly used or determined to be used as a ''special'' nuclear accident signal? Or was it just something it could theoretically do?

Re: Civil Defense black box

The box is right beside the gym in the hallway, so broadcasting is possible. The school is in the middle of nowhere with just trees and houses nearby, so I dont know about fallout shelters in it or nearby. I dont know how much history has been kept about civil defense in the school, or the county. I...

Civil Defense black box

Lately I have found a black, civil defense box in my high school, mounted in the wall inside a hallway to the gym. The box originally had a patch of the civil defense logo on the front, but had been taken off just recently so when you see the pictures, try to imagine a patch on the front. The box ha...

Re: Mountings

Yes, today, sirens are more commonly found on their own dedicated pole with their own equipment. It's very rare that I see an old siren enclosed into a system, because they are usually rooftop mounted and controlled from within the building. Also, what were the little brown box ringers called? I bel...

Mountings

Hello! Recently, I have been thinking about some sirens, and their places in an old siren system. For example, some sirens were ''freely mounted'' meaning they were usually put up around a place that needed advanced warning (Such as a school, neighborhood, or a Downtown area) on their OWN pole, inst...

Old Chicago Fire Station Sirens

So I stumbled upon afew old pictures of old chicago Fire stations, and noticed that there were quite afew thunderbolts and a model 5 installed on the stations, So I was wondering.
