Aha, you're right. It's not my camera adding the annoying whistle, it's Windows Movie Maker. Perhaps then it's time to look for a better video editor. And yeah, I wasn't very close to the siren, I'd estimate about 500 feet away. My camera has a 10x zoom, so that really helps get up close to the sire...

Tips for better siren audio recordings

I've only recently begun recording video of various sirens in our area being tested. The camera I'm using to do this takes fairly decent video quality...but the audio isn't the best. When exposed to loud noises, such as a siren, the audio gets overlaid with a rather annoying, tinny, high-pitched whi...

In Iowa, the Duane Arnold Energy Center siren system uses all Whelen sirens. A majority of them are WPS-4004s and WPS-3016s. There are also a few 2016s included in the mix in some areas. As for how many sirens there are, their locations, coverage, etc, I unfortunately do not have that information, n...

All right, the consensus is that siren #1 is a Mars siren, and the evidence strongly supports it. If I get a chance, I'll try to contact someone at the fire station in Mount Auburn, see if they know anything about it, because it would be interesting to know more. Oh, and for those who are interested...

I've been in a handful of small towns that have sirens mounted on or near city garages/maintenance sheds, where the city keeps their trucks and other maintenance equipment. Although, from what I can tell, more often than not these city garages/maintenance sheds actually used to be old fire stations,...

Welcome to the board. You win one karma point for the detailed photo of the rare Federal's rotor. It is the successor to the Lion and probably sounds just like it, which is close to a 2001 in pitch. Any idea about how old this siren might be? It has to easily be the oldest siren in all of Benton Co...

I've come across a somewhat similar siren in Mounds, OK. Daniel pointed out that it might be a Federal Signal product form the 20's or 30's. http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9136/022lv3.jpg As you can see, the one in Mounds is rusting away. Wow. Except for the fact that yours is single-headed and m...

(Pictures Inside) Help Identify Siren Models

Hello. I am new to the forums, and fairly new to the hobby of siren spotting, so please forgive any ignorance or errors on my part. I am seeking some help identifying a couple area sirens that I am unable to identify. Here are some pictures, and what I do know about them: http://i7.photobucket.com/a...
